Mrs. Rasmussen began learning the violin in the 4th grade in the Boise public schools. She has taught privately for over 15 years. She has directed choirs and orchestras and has been in many teaching positions. Mrs. Rasmussen has taught at Treasure Valley Community College as adjunct faculty in both private and group settings. She played in Treasure Valley Symphony as principal player of the second violin section for many years. She also spent time as the manager of the Treasure Valley Symphony and later conducted the Treasure Valley Symphony on several occasions. Mrs. Rasmussen was mentored in conducting by Arturo Chavez, Dr. Robert Armstrong and Dr. Mark Dennison. In 2011, Mrs. Rasmussen founded the Weiser Youth Symphony. After 10 years of consistent growth, the orchestra was divided and renamed the Weiser Youth Orchestra and Idaho Heritage Symphony. She presently is music director of both groups. In 2020, Mrs. Rasmussen began working as the orchestra director and music teacher at Treasure Valley Classical Academy in Fruitland, ID where she is able to reach a wider group of children interested in string instruments. Mrs. Rasmussen volunteers her time promoting the arts in her community by serving on the board of the Snake River Heritage Center. The Rasmussen Family is a small orchestra of eight. Each plays a string instrument and all play in community orchestras. The oldest two children now have students of their own.
Over the summer of 2022, the Idaho Heritage Symphony combined with the Treasure Valley Symphony to form the Treasure Valley Heritage Symphony. With a total membership of over 60 musicians, we no longer fit on the stage of our beloved Snake River Heritage Center. The Treasure Valley Heritage Symphony now rehearses and performs at the Four Rivers Cultural Center in Ontario, Oregon. With the backing of the community and Treasure Valley Community College, TVHS will serve the college's students along with all those who love live music. Each concert will be performed at the FRCC along with a reduced orchestra at the SRHC in Weiser. Check out our concert page for more details on our performances. We look forward to seeing you at our next concert!
Treasure Valley Heritage Symphony members cover all the instruments of a traditional full orchestra. Ages include talented juniors and seniors in high school up to highly experienced musicians. Members of the orchestra come from surrounding communities of Weiser with some driving up to 90 mins one way to attend rehearsals. Some of the communities represented are Meridian, Cambridge, Parma, Payette, Fruitland, Weiser, Ontario and Nyssa. Orchestra members enjoy a unique camaraderie and support of one another. We welcome new players, especially string musicians. We are also grateful to have a wonderful team who work behind the scenes to ensure our success. Dlr Design is over publicity and marketing; Stephen Cook and Dawn Eden with social media publicity. Scott Rasmussen helps with facilities and concert logistics. Our music librarian position is currently open. We rely solely upon concert admissions and generous donations to fund our orchestra.
